THE INS AND OUTS OF MUNICIPAL COURT: DO I EVEN NEED A LAWYER?

Nearly six million out of the seven million cases heard in New Jersey are filed in Municipal Court. Chances are that if you have interacted with the legal system then it was with the one of the 510 Municipal Courts in the state. But what is a Municipal Court? Over what areas do they have authority, also called jurisdiction? And, most importantly, do you need a lawyer when in Municipal Court?
